Disney on a Dime: Post 2 HOTEL

So hopefully you have read the post on airfare and see all of the advantages to flying out of Akron/Canton to Orlando on Airtran Airways! Next we will discuss hotels. I often hear people discussing the difference between "on-property" and "off-property" hotels. This is really a no brainer for me because I LOVE DISNEY! The Disney value resorts can be booked for around $105 per night (weekdays) and $120 per night (weekend.) If you have never been to a Disney resort, they are elaborately decorated to remind you constantly that you are in DISNEY!
From the carpet to the walls, the rooms (even at the value resorts) scream Disney. This is exciting for the kids because one they step into that hotel, they know they are in Mickey territory. So while I believe the value resorts are very competitive with other hotels off-property, this added incentive is what makes it an easy decision for me. If the decor is not enough for you, Disney also offers many perks for staying on property which include: free transportation on their bus lines from your hotel to just about every area of Disney (I'm yet to find somewhere they don't go), package deals which include a discount on tickets to Disney and free delivery of your purchases to your hotel room. With a Disney hotel/ticket package, they also reward you for staying longer. The tickets seem to be the most expensive part and the longer you stay the cheaper it gets. You can view this by logging onto their website here. Under "Tickets and Packages" you can click on "Special Offers." There is usually a great bargain to be found if you plan well ahead and keep watch! Currently they are running a free dining promo but sometimes they run a kids stay and play free, where up to 2 kids per 2 adults get free tickets and stay in the same room with their parents. This is a great deal since the Disney ticket alone is $79.00 per day! If you were to get a 7-day package under the kids stay free promo and had two kids, it would save you around $500!
For our next trip, we are looking at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness because they fit large families without booking 2 rooms and have drive up access, no parking our rental car a million miles away from the hotel! And yes we do rent a car when we go to visit Jim's favorite cousin, his beautiful wife and their fabulous baby girl!!
So that is my hotel opinion all wrapped up. Also, if it is your first visit; don't get roped into a fancy hotel...you will LOVE the Value Resorts! Disney is a world of it's own and even the cheapest route is more than I would have ever imagined. Save your money for all the fun extras!!
